Automaton Tracers are powerful ranged-based opponents created by Cres, a Guardian of Guthix, to protect Guthix's chamber. They can be found in the central room of Guthix's lair after the completion of The World Wakes. They require 67 Slayer to be harmed and are known for dropping many various mid-priced stackable loot and their unique gloves as a rare drop.

Automaton tracers currently provide the most kills per hour out of the Automatons, due to a stronger ability skill set/rotation being available to melee (especially when dual wielding).

Strategies

Players should be aware of the monster's special attack, in which it starts pounding the ground with both arms, doing a pulsing area of effect damage around the automaton at regular intervals, but roots the monster in place (note it can still perform regular auto attacks while the special is active). This can quickly do 1000+ damage if multiple pulses contact with the player. With a well timed stun however, they will still do the animation of the attack but it will not do damage.

Turmoil, Anguish, or Torment significantly increase damage when fighting this monster, as the monster has high combat stats in all areas (but Turmoil provides the correct bonus against its weakness). In general, profit from obtaining more tradeable goods exceeds the cost of prayer dosage, as well as increasing the likelihood of defeating the guardian before the special attacks occur.

Players should evade the special by defeating it quickly before it activates the special. This can be done reliably with drygore weapons, ideally the maces since they are weak to crush (although chaotic weapons will barely suffice), through chaining multiple threshold abilities; such as Destroy, assault, flurry or strong ultimates like berserk (preferably using Void Knight equipment). Once the player masters this, the Scrimshaw of vampyrism alone (or vampyrism aura) is enough sustain the player indefinitely, allowing prayer to be conserved for Turmoil (Penance Aura is useful as well), essential in achieving many kills. 

The ranged ability escape can also be used to evade most of the damage of the special attack if timed properly.

Other convenience include: the quest reward Sixth-Age circuit, providing a quick teleport back to the area and Solomon's General Store pet variants, which automatically loots the plethora of stacking objects.
