Corrupted ore, also called Seren corruption, is an ore gained from mining Seren Stones, which require 89 Mining. It can also be gathered from the regular or harmonised ore rocks in Prifddinas if the Voice of Seren is illuminating the Trahaearn Clan district of the city, or from the crystal chest in the Iorwerth Clan district. Higher level ores produce corrupted ore at a higher rate. It is usable at a furnace with 89 Smithing, where it can be turned into experience, with no end-product produced. One can boost their Smithing level with either a God banner (+2), a Dwarven Stout (+1) or its matured version (+2). While the Voice of Seren buff is active in the district, corrupted ore generates at a rate of roughly 20 - 25%.
Each corrupted ore gives 150 Smithing experience, or 180 Smithing experience with the Voice of Seren. 1,500 corrupted ore can be used in one hour which equates to 225,000 experience/hour, increasing to 270,000 experience/hour with the Voice of Seren. Every time the "Smelt corrupted ore" option is selected, it will smelt up to 60 ores before players must re-click to smelt more ores.
After smelting the first 100 corrupted ores, players will receive an experience lamp worth 50,000 Smithing experience by talking to Lady Trahaearn. She is located just south of the Seren Stones in the Trahaearn Clan district.
Urns do not work with this ore, as the strong smelting urn only works for ores levels 85 and below. Similarly, perfect juju mining potions and juju mining potions do not work either. Additionally, the chance of smithing two ores at once, from the Varrock Armour, does not work, unless the player has completed the New Varrock elite tasks.
- The examine text is a reference to most other smeltable ore's examine texts which say "This needs refining."
- When superheating corrupted ore during the Voice of Seren, it will not grant you 180 Smithing experience nor swamp tar.
