A sapphire lantern with oil is a bullseye lantern that has a cut sapphire in place of its usual glass lens. It is created by adding lamp oil to a sapphire lantern (empty), or by using a cut sapphire with a bullseye lantern (oil). Making the lantern requires level 49 Crafting and the Assist System cannot be used. The lantern can be lit with a tinderbox to produce a sapphire lantern (lit).

The lantern is a light source and is used for attracting Light creatures in the Tears of Guthix cavern. Players need to use these creatures to traverse the cavern in the Tears of Guthix and While Guthix Sleeps quests. The lantern is also used for killing Tormented Demons during and after the While Guthix Sleeps quest.

The lantern can be made at any time, independent of quests and activities, as long as the Crafting level is 49.

To make the Sapphire Lantern, the player must use a cut sapphire on a normal or unlensed Bullseye Lantern. If the lantern used had a lens, the player will receive a lens in their inventory. After the player is finished using the Sapphire Lantern, he or she may use a Bullseye Lantern Lens to convert it back into a normal Bullseye Lantern and retrieve the sapphire.

Note: You do not need level 49 crafting if you just swap the lens in an already completed lantern for a cut sapphire.
