Stagger (formerly Stun) is a curse spell in the standard spellbook that temporarily reduces the target's hit chance by 10%. It does not stack with Confuse, although a target may suffer from both at the same time.

Remember, you cannot use Ancient Magicks or Lunar Spells if you are using standard spells.

Magic training[]

NOTE: Due to the Evolution of Combat, you will no longer gain experience for casting this spell and missing.

Prior to the update which stopped Stagger giving experience when it missed, it was used as a method for Magic training. Some players preferred to use sacred clay armour in order to double the amount of experience gained per spell.

The popular locations that were used for training with Stagger are Edgeville, casting at skeletons in the first few levels of the Wilderness; at the caged Monk of Zamorak at Varrock Palace and in the Magic Guild cellar, where there are caged zombies. However, any location with a safe spot may have been used.

Because Stagger cannot be autocast, repeatedly casting it on monsters involves a lot of clicking. To alleviate this, some players prefer to use a combination of mousekeys and the F4 key (which opens and closes the spellbook interface) instead of mouse movements and clicking.

When using this method, the maximum experience rate was 162,000 experience per hour, at 1,800 casts per hour (1 cast every 2 seconds).

One other method of using Stagger, is to use it in combination with high-level alchemy (previously known as stun-alching).

Trivia[]

  • It was once possible to cast Stagger on dummies at Varrock and Lumbridge; however, this can no longer be done. Some players were upset by the removal of the ability to Stagger dummies, as it had been a popular method of training Magic.
